The Estherville Public Library will be offering a free genealogy series for up to 20 youth aged 10-15 this fall. Beginning September 15 until November 15, this series will feature guest speakers and provide guidance to young researchers. The group will also meet offsite on several occasions to explore resources at the courthouse, museum, and learn how to search local cemeteries.
This series would not be possible without generous donations from community organizations:
Emmet County Board of Supervisors, North Star Nights Kiwanis, North Star Masonic Lodge #447, Ladies of the Lake DAR, and Emmet County Genealogical Society
Registration for this event will open on August 15th. See the library’s website, stop by, or call 362-7731 to add your child’s name to the list.
Location
Estherville Public Library 613 Central Ave Estherville, IA 51334
Participants will receive everything they need to compile their findings during the sessions. Instruction will be provided for the use of print and database resources. Work days are built into the schedule, and some “homework” (interviewing a family member) will be assigned. A finale is planned to celebrate their findings and to share their scrapbooks with family & community members.
