Event Description
Make plans to start 2018 more informed on your financial management and discover the best practices for making plans for the future. ISU Extension and Outreach in Emmet County along with the Estherville Public Library are offering a series of financial classes that will be held at noon each Wednesday in the month of January. 
 
The sessions will include information on how to compare social security options and which one is best for you; how to begin to save for retirement; the difference between Roth and Traditional IRAs; and different management decisions and strategies that are best practices when working towards retirement. In many cases, planning ahead and taking small steps now can lead to great rewards. Each Wednesday noon session will have a different focus, and individuals can choose to participate in one, two, three, four or all five sessions.
 
The schedule of topics are:
January 3- Begin by Planning Today “Begin by Planning Today” will explore where your retirement money will come from and how to grow your nest egg
 
January 10- Picture Your Future                                                                 
“Picture Your Future” and decide where you want to live when you retire. Imagine your life at age 70. Let’s discover how to take small steps now — in many instances, less than $6 a day — and earn big rewards — as much as a million dollars — in the future.
 
January 17- Plan for Retirement and Build a Bridge to Your Future     
“Plan for Retirement and Build a Bridge to Your Future” teaches you how to make management decisions and identify strategies to get retirement plans started.
                                               
January 24- Social Security: Understanding Your Options                      
Social Security can be confusing. Learn more about when to start drawing social security benefits. Understand your   options of choosing your own or a spouse’s benefits. Making these decisions can impact your benefits for life.
 
 
January 31- Roth IRA vs. Traditional IRA                                                            
How do you know which Individual Retirement Annuity (IRA) is best for your personal situation? Discover the difference between a Roth versus a Traditional IRA.

The cost for each session is $5 which includes the lesson, additional helpful resources and a light lunch. The series be held at noon at the Estherville Public Library’s Community Room. To register call (712) 362-3434 or email Britney Rosburg at britneyr@iastate.edu. Those who would rather participate on their own can register online and log on from their home or office during the timeframe.
